Lifeforms without oxygen
I just read on Aftonbladet that they have found fossils that indicate that there were bacterias on earth when there was very little/no oxygen. This means that life possible can start on other planets with little/no oxygen.
You can read the article in Swedish here: http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article13507784.ab
Here is an article in English: http://blogs.voanews.com/science-world/2011/08/22/earths-oldest-fossils-could-provide-clues-to-life-on-other-planets/
I would also want to bring up a discovery scientist made earlier this year. They found bacteria that were made of arsenic, which is deadly to all other lifeforms here on earth, who is made by fosfor.
This also expand the chances of life beyond this planets, and frankly makes me very happy. ^^
